Recently I had the pleasure of accompanying one of the South Bay's top producing RE/MAX realtors, Devra Zandell, to her South Bay Association of Realtors (SBAOR) YPN meeting featuring Bill Brand, Mayor of Redondo Beach; Jeff Duclos, Mayor of Hermosa Beach; and Amy Howorth, Mayor of Manhattan Beach.
Devra's a member and we wanted to hear the perspective and focus of the Mayors as they help run our wonderful South Bay community.
What I especially enjoyed seeing and hearing was the couple who was the recipient of a Habitat for Humanity home. They are thrilled to be able to provide their children a real home and were working professionals who were chosen out of hundreds of people who applied. SBAOR plans to host another Habitat for Humanity volunteer opportunity in Culver City this fall. They offer so many wonderful seminars and opportunities to learn and give back, no wonder Devra is a member!
I enjoyed hearing Amy Howorth of Manhattan Beach share she's part of a group called Beach Cities Friends who will be hosting a Habitat for Humanity Trivia Night Fundraiser on September 16.

We all brought a backpack as our entry fee in the SBAOR backpack fundraiser for abused and neglected children in foster care who need to know someone loves and cares about them.
That's one of the beautiful aspects of the South Bay, there's a lot of really kind, giving people who care enough to make a difference in the lives of those who need a little help.
Many foster children carry their belongings from home to home in tattered plastic bags. Did you know Tiffany Haddish was in foster care?
Just read her story in the latest Glamour magazine and was happy to read she invites people to bring suitcases to her shows to distribute to children in need.

After the charity introductions, we jumped right into the panel as we munched appetizers from Samba Brazilian Steakhouse.
Each Mayor was invited to discuss how they are engaged in their respective communities and how they are working to make the South Bay a better place to live and work.
It was interesting to see how they all worked together and the different issues each city faces.
They discussed where each city stood on short-term rentals, public safety along the PCH corridor, the future of the South Bay Galleria (up for a vote on October 2, 2018 - mark your calendars!), the Legado project, the status of the AES Power Plant (hinges on zoning), and other questions, like dealing with the small population of homeless, Prop 10 which is on the ballot November 6, 2018 to determine whether or not rent control will be enacted, new developments and housing.

Now I can't wait to attend the Manhattan Beach Badminton Club's 3rd Annual Craft Beer, Wine & Food Festival Benefiting Junior Foundation Programs including Special Needs, Junior, Veteran & Para-Athletes, presented by Rock & Brews! MBBC will welcome more than 20 local and regional premium craft breweries, 10 exceptional vintners and 10 amazing restaurants to the South Bay and will donate 100% of the proceeds to their Junior Foundation Programs.
