VOX DJs & Signature Magazine July Party recap

By Joy A. Kennelly

What a whirlwind couple of days. I think I needed some fun single activities to help put my sadness of losing my uncle and my sister going back home into perspective. I'm good now. Just in case you were curious.:)

First things first.

Coverage of my client, VOX DJs, participation in the recent Signature Magazine's July issue showcasing Model/Actress AnnaLynne McCord at the uber cool Palihouse for your reading and viewing pleasure.

I arrived around 9:30pm and by then, the rooftop, where the main part of the party was held, was packed with what seemed like all of young Hollywood. There was a continuous slide show of Signature Magazine's July Issue images playing in one corner while people gathered in small groups around heat lamps, the raised grassy knolls scattered throughout the space, or looking out over the magnificent city views while listening to VOX DJs play.

Here's some quick pix to set the stage.

Scene Scene2 Signature Vox signage Rod - good
VOX DJ Roderick was spinning when I arrived. It was nice to see how many people came up to him afterward to compliment him on his music selections.

VOX DJs in the house! They just came off spinning at the ESPY pre-party before this event. Now why wasn't I invited to that party is what I want to know! I love me some athletes.:)

VOX DJ CEO/DJ/MC KC also just returned from working the four-day Romance Writers of America conference in Washington, DC. That conference he can have all to himself cuz I'm not into that, but I'm sure it's really wonderful for writers in that genre. I'm also positive KC had a blast knowing him as I do!

Now do you see why it's so hard for me to pin him down for information? KC's one busy dude. We're working on it though.:)

Here's the core group of VOX DJs.

Sales Manager, Roderick aka DJ Raw Styles, DJ Andy, CEO/DJ/MC, KC, and Operations Manager, Kyle. Vox - 2 Vox - 3 Roderick, Andy, KC, Kyle again with Tony, also a stylist, thrown in.
Rod- girls
Apparently Roderick travels with a harem. I had fun shooting him and his girls. Aren't they cute?
Rod & his posse Vox & girls Andy3 VOX DJ Andy took over when VOX DJ Roderick left to spin downstairs. Palihouse has this very comfortable living room type environment downstairs with really cool art and a restaurant with a glass roof which you could see when you looked over the edge from the roof.

Before we left, Signature Magazine showcased a special short film of one of their photographer's shoots which KC announced.
Kc2  It was a very interesting film to watch because I ended up standing in front of one of the photographer assistant's who kept a running commentary explaining the shoot since it was a silent movie except for the East Indian music playing  in the background.

Yes, I admit, I eavesdropped, but in my defense, he was talking loudly.:)
Oren & rod This is Oren Levy of Signature/LA Direct Magazine with VOX DJ Roderick. Very nice marketing guy.
Andy w police If you look closely in the background you'll see the police. I guess what they say about a party not being a success until the police arrives is true.:)

We left KC hanging out with old and new friends before heading downstairs to check out that scene.
Kc & friend Writer w KC2
Despite the elevator not working between the four floors later on in the evening, everyone was in good spirits and settled into the cozy living room type setting available in the downstairs area after walking the stairs.
Posse Female vox VOX DJ Mixine was playing old school R & B which made the Signature Magazine Cover Model/Actress Annalynne McCord of 90210 dance on the table. I bet the paparazzi wished they'd been inside. I mean no harm, and simply thought it was cute she was having such a good time which is why I grabbed the shot.
Model Kid
I also liked this guy's look which is why I had him pose. Gotta love someone willing to take the MJ glove to the next level, right?:)
Party! VOX DJ Tony was having a great time too in case you didn't notice.
Vox4 As I left, VOX DJ Roderick was getting ready to take over from VOX DJ Mixine. I don't think the police shut the party down either.:)

That's all for now. Have a good one.

Opening Day at the Del Mar Race track next.

Palihouse Party last night w/VOX DJs & Signature Magazine

By Joy A. Kennelly

I had a great time last night hanging with my client, VOX DJs, while they played at the Signature Magazine private party featuring the gorgeous AnnaLynne McCord at Palihouse with pictures to prove it! I just have to upload them. Some you won't want to miss.:)

It might take a bit since I have relatives visiting I haven't seen since they got married many moons ago.

Plus, am going to hit Opening Day at Del Mar Races today too if all goes well.

Check back later.:)

Family Ties - blood is definitely thicker than water.

By Joy A. Kennelly

Well all good things must come to an end. Tomorrow my sister and her kids head back to CO after a jam-packed, fun-filled vacation out here visiting with us and other friends in San Diego and here. I have had a lot of fun spending time with them. Maybe too much fun.:)

I also enjoyed my visit with my cousins visiting from Ohio who I haven't seen since they were married many moons ago. The reason we all got together was sad because my uncle died, but sometimes sad things happen to draw family closer together.

My uncle's death was a surprise to me, but those closest to him were kind of expecting it since he'd been in and out of the hospital so often lately. I have to admit, it's probably a big relief to my aunt not to have to worry about him although it's still sad. We normally only get together on holidays.

My mom and I and family all convened at my other aunt's home for lunch in San Diego before attending the service which was nice. The service was very lovely and gave me an opportunity to mourn with his side of the family. Then we had dinner afterward privately again which was nice.

My family is pretty funny and we were sharing fun family memories this morning which was a nice way to start the weekend. My cousin promises to stay in better touch now that we've re-connected in person which is nice because he and his wife are really wonderful people.

My allergies are finally subsiding - thank you Cousin Caroline for recommending Sudafed! After a nine hour rest, I feel great and ready for tonight's BBQ which should be fun. Speaking of which, I need to go prep.

Did want to say that my previous O post drew quite the commentary on Facebook which was fun to read. I am moving on from that issue, but if you're curious, read my F/B notes to learn what both sides of the political spectrum feel about this.

As for me, I'm enjoying my summer! I hope you are too!

Obama is African - according to Ghana newspaper! I KNEW IT!!!!

Perhaps you already know that O's Kenyan grandmother told a reporter in an interview that she was present at his (sorry, should be uppercase h) His birth in Kenya in 1961.  And that shortly thereafter the Kenyan government placed a gag order on O's relatives forbidding them to speak to the media anymore without permission.

And that the Kenyan ambassador to the US let it slip in a radio interview that O was born in Kenya.

And perhaps you also know that someone in Hawaii found a divorce decree from O's parents' divorce in 1964 that mentions a child born in Kenya.

All that news is old news.

But this just in...

A few days ago a Ghana newspaper made mention of our president having been born on the African continent.  Quote is below and the link to the online story follows.  I doubt this will remain online for long.  Ghana will certainly soon be paid a visit by O's henchmen.

"For Ghana, Obama's visit will be a celebration of another milestone in African history as it hosts the first-ever African-American President on this presidential visit to the continent of his birth."

Hermosa Beach Small Biz Tax Increase - fails to pass

Thought you might enjoy reading this follow-up to last night's Hermosa Beach City Council meeting. This is from my bud Pete Kesterson.

I would like to sincerely thank the numerous BCRC Members from all over the South Bay, the many local business owners, and the Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce who came out this evening to speak to the Hermosa Beach City Council about the proposed increase in the Business License Fee.  Tonight shows that being involved with what goes on in your community is important for all.  I am happy to report that the proposal was defeated 3-2.

I would also like to thank Mayor Kit Bobko, Mayor Pro Tem Michael DiVirgilio, and Councilman Peter Tucker for so thoughtfully considering the concerns of the citizens and business owners and defeating this measure.  It is refreshing to see where some are decided or undecided that they will listen, consider, and vote thoughtfully.  It is clear that down the road as this issue comes up again that the Council will work with local businesses to more fairly and openly discuss issues that effect the business community.

I would like to invite all who are receiving this email to get involved with their community. Remember, all politics is local.  Whether you support or oppose an issue it is your civil obligation to participate in the governance of your community.  We are a nation that is "of the people and by the people".  We must never stop being vigilant and supportive of our local  government.  It is your obligation to speak up regardless of your opinion.  And the greatest power you have is to vote out those that you disagree with.  The people are the ultimate in term limits.  We need to stop electing people (at all levels) just because they are the incumbent.  Pay attention and make your vote count!

What can you do each and every day to make a difference?

Sincerely,

Pete Kesterson

Cable News should chg to Cable Opinions by blowhards - all channels!

By Joy A. Kennelly

I haven't posted in awhile because I've been slammed and also enjoying my visiting sister and her kids, but after turning on the "news" today, just felt like sharing in case any of the "NEWS" BLOWHARDS who happen to stumble across my blog see themselves and realize they're making politics a joke - all channels and all sides.

I just wish there was one station other than the BBC which simply reported what was going on without personal commentary and bias. Just give me the news. I don't CARE about your personal opinion. If I wanted to know it, I would ask.

I bet if some news company actually did that, then they would get a viewership just for being unique in this day and age. I could be wrong, but I wish someone would just try. Enough with your bias, personal opinions and other nonsense. Just tell me what's going on and let me draw my own conclusion.

Oh, and for the record, sending me an email supposedly from Obama telling me Sotomayer is wonderful doesn't ring true either. Kind of makes me sick to my stomach actually. What about fixing the economy buddy? The "stimulus" plan now being positioned as "recovery" plan is what we call in certain circles a "spending" plan. Spend first and then figure it out afterward.:) Doesn't always work does it?:)

Lastly, in case you care, tonight, July 14, is the night to attend the Hermosa Beach City Council meeting to speak out against the proposal re: increasing business taxes unequally throughout the city. I know I've been a proponent to raise business taxes in the past, but not in this economy, not so unfairly, not favoring bars and psychics to the detriment of hard-working small business owners who are struggling enough as it is.

Here's a link with all the details: City Council Agenda & location details I know a lot of people are planning to attend, but since I'm on a "mini-hiatus" from Hermosa's political scene, I'm skipping it to attend another event. I've had enough of the BS.

Have a good one. I plan to.

BIZBash Expo Part III - this was recovered so enjoy...

By Joy A. Kennelly

Okay, here's the final update regarding last week's BizBash Expo part of the one-day conference for event professionals held at the LA Mart in Downtown LA.

Kcr VOX DJs CEO/DJ/MC KC Campbell, BizBash Editor-in-Chief, Chad Kaydo, and VOX DJs DJ/Operation Manager, Roderick Gaerlan standing at the entrance to the expo floor after the Awards Ceremony.

Kar KC aka DJ KACE and Roderick aka DJ Raw Styles caught up with another BizBash friend enjoying the gold furniture offered by www.feteaccomplievents.com  which my Facebook friend, Candice Bradley, represents in case anyone is interested.

This chair is my favorite and DJ Raw Styles is the king here...
Dj raw styles Kr & guest There were lots of furniture vendors and the woman above is also a local South Bay resident both KC and Roderick have worked with in the past.

Here's some examples of other furniture vendors from the floor. This is Classic Party Rentals on your left and another company I don't remember, but you can find them on BizBash's exhibitor list I'm sure.Vendor5 Vendor2
I was surprised at how many venues VOX DJs had relationships with, but I should have known since they've been around for 25 years. Sofitel Luxury Hotels had a booth where KC was greeted warmly since they're one of their preferred DJ company referrals. Sofitel2
Who knew? Simon LA, for those not from LA, is Chef Kerry Simon's restaurant on-site. Chef David Linville was featured in the LA Magazine Food Event with him last October.

Moving right along. Spencer invited me to "do lunch" which I think I'm going to take him up on since I've enjoyed my previous experiences there and want to learn more about what they have to offer.
Sofitel - good VOX DJs had a full-page ad in the magazine the Sofitel passed out which has been drawing a lot of interest which is a good thing.

Got to keep getting out there!
Ciudad Here's another vendor VOX DJs has worked with, Border Grill and Ciudad. If you haven't been Downtown to visit Ciudad, you really must make the trip. They have delicious food and their mojitos are just right.

If you want something closer to home, visit Border Grill, but just know they're two completely different vibes - Ciudad is more Downtown chic whereas Border Grill is family friendly and more casual.

In my humble opinion, both have delicious food, but are totally different.
La live This is a mock-up of the new Downtown LA Nokia Center called LA Live which I'm dying to visit. Since I'm not a huge sports fan, nor are most of my friends, it's not something we would normally go to, but it's very popular from what I hear.

I remember when this was still in the discussion stages while I was writing for the Los Angeles Convention Bureau (LA Inc) and it's great to see it come to fruition. Totally revolutionizing Downtown!

Me3 This costumed partier was part of another booth and one of my favorites right from the start because she was so unusual and had delicious cupcakes.:) Sorry, their name escapes me, but I think it's Champagne Girls?

Here's some more examples of other costumes they have to offer. I think this would jumpstart any special event immediately! Don't you? I love the glass tables they drag around cutting quite a path.
Champagne girl Betst Bags Me & denzel Vendor Voxdjs3
What would a special event in LA be without goody bags, celebrities, backdrops, and Bolthouse VOX Events or VOX DJs? Did you know VOX DJs is the preferred DJ service for all Barry Manilow conferences, his birthday and fan events in London, Los Angeles or Las Vegas?

Or they DJ'ed Pat O'Brien's birthday party? And the after-party of the Lion King at the Pantages Theater?

I remember the Signature Magazine launch party cuz I took one of my celebrity clients there and we had a great time. I didn't even know VOX DJs back then and there they were!

VOX DJs have performed at over 1500 weddings, over 600 corporate events, over 400 college and universities, over 100 bar/bat mitzvahs, over 600 private special events, and over 200 nightclubs and lounges.

But I digress, back to BizBash.

That wax statue of Denzel Washington is just one of the wax celebrity figure guests will enjoy at the new Hollywood Madame Tussaud's  Wax Museum which opens on August 1. If you click on the link you will find all the details.

Here's another funny one of me "talking" to Denzel (who I recently enjoyed in Pelham 123. John Travolta was great too!) "Yes, Denzel, you are a great actor and deserve to be waxed," I told him.
Me & denzel 2 Vegas
There was even a little taste of Las Vegas there. Craps anyone? Or whatever this is...:)

Now here's some more of my favorites: Garden How does your garden grow? This one grew truffle pops that were melt in your mouth yummmm. Hotcakes Another temptation that I found hard to resist. Mrs fields Mms2 Both of these vendors were showcasing their ability to put whatever you wanted branded on their products. I took a Mrs. Fields cookie that had a picture of the founder.

When I looked at it later it was falling apart. I guess that's how the cookie crumbles. Sorry, couldn't resist. I've been saving that one for a couple of days. LOL

PatinaPatina Restaurant Group was represented and is another company VOX DJs has worked with. See what I mean? They are connected! Vendor7
I liked this hat vendor appropriately called Party Hats because she was so passionate about her products.

Reminded me of the Warning, When I Am Old I Shall Wear Purple poem when I saw all the crazy hats which are popular props among fundraisers and other special events.

This just begged to be shot cuz it is so hilarious. This Lucky Strike pin was rocking to Guitar Hero!!! Guitar hero He made a lot of people smile as he walked by.  Lucky strike Lucky strike2
The woman air kissing him good-bye used to work for Lucky Strike, but is now working for The Doheny in Downtown LA. Her card is so elegant I can't wait to visit the actual location. If I can get in... Check out a recent review on the link above. It's so LA! At least I know my friend!
Rod & skam artists Silly SKAM Artists kept the party flowing and these silly guys had us all laughing. I don't think the guy in red beret meant to be funny either. I think this is his normal clothes, but I could be wrong.

Here's some random pictures of some of the other vendors exhibiting. Enjoy!

Thus ends our daylong BizBash Expo experience. I hope you've enjoyed the tour and will explore using some of their services through the BizBash site.

Or hire me and I'll hook you up!:) That's all for now. Have a good one.
