People take politics way TOO seriously - this will crack you up...Or at least it did me

By Joy A. Kennelly

Tonight as a joke I decided to send out a Support McCain/Palin email to people I knew were Democrats and Republican friends because recently I've been inundated with Obama messages on Facebook and thought turn-about was fair play. Also curious to see how people would respond - a social experiment you might say.

I feel a little sorry for those who don't understand my sense of humor, or realize that I'm totally joking with them because you should have seen some of the responses I received! In fact, they're so funny, I'm going to post a couple here just to make you laugh. There's some supportive ones too. Enjoy!

First, here's what I sent out from the McCain/Palin site:

Join me and support John McCain (this was the subject line)

JohnMcCain.com

Please click here to join John McCain's team today. Only with your help and support can we elect John McCain the next President of the United States.

Hey Everyone, Haven't talked to some of you in ages and thought

a polarizing political announcement was a nice way to say hello again.

JUST KIDDING. Seeing as I'm always receiving Obama emails I thought

I'd share something from the other side just in case you're

wavering. lol

I'm just teasing with ya now. Hope you get the joke.

I recently experienced something that made me realize

I either speak up, or allow CA to become like a communist

country where only one viewpoint is heard. I refuse to do

that. If you're a Democrat, disregard and please don't be

offended. Just realize this is what it feels like when

you're inundated with pro-Obama emails and discussions

all the time.:) If you're a Republican, step up to the plate

and be counted. This is no time to sit on the sidelines.

There's too much at stake. I'm a moderate, but have

been forced to choose and be visible. God bless America!

Land of the free and freedom of speech.

I respect your opinion even if it's different and hope

you respect mine too.

Now get out there and vote! Vote for the candidate

of your choice, but VOTE!

(And watch the debates. Speaking as a moderate,

this has been the most exciting race in my lifetime!)

And remember, we're Americans first before we're a party.

Sincerely,

Joy Kennelly

Now here's some of the better responses. I won't post their names to protect their privacy, but I think they're funny. Oh, can't wait to hear Barbara Boxer's response - lol! Yes, I wrote her too. I'm telling you, I crack myself up!!!!!

DA - please remove me immediately from this list.  thank you

DA - I WILL NEVER SUPPORT THOSE 2 FASCISTS!!

SHE IS THE MOST HORRIBLE WOMAN I'VE EVER SEEN!!!

HOW CAN YOU BE SENDING ME THIS??????????????? AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

HHHHHHHHHHH (I told him it was a joke and he totally understood. Others didn't and still argued!)

(This from a liberal women's rights group) Are you kidding? Wow Joy. I wouldn't admit such a thing. Please remove me from your address book!

To which I replied, I was totally laughing when I sent it out because I know the joke. I also know that it's a free country and we should be allowed to express different opinions without fear of retribution. So!!!! Realize I sent it to you as a joke.

If you want to remove yourself from future messages - go to the bottom of the original and do so ok? Otherwise you'll get another one. Don't want to make you mad!

And she gets it and responded:

Very good to know Joy. And whatever to the free speech, speech. You wrote me an email, in which I freely responded. By the way, I got the original 4 times!

(me - Hey McCain - get it together bud!)

PM - I cannot vote as I am not yet a citizen but if I could I would definitely vote for Obama.
I wish you could see the light and do the same.

SS - Sorry Joy. Nice Try, but no dice. Wont even open the email. (And they call Republicans close-minded - lol. However, not all are - read this next one:)

SB - Thanks for your thoughts.  I believe that we all have the right to support whoever we want and to share that with others.

On that note, I will say that I support liberty an the constitution.  That means that the HUGE government, law-breaking, lying republicans are not a good choice.  It means that the socialist BIG government Democrats are not the choice.

Basically, the two main parties, Republicrats as I like to call them, do everything they can to keep third parties out of the election by passing unconstitutional laws preventing ballot access by most third party candidates.

The choice is clear.  Vote Libertarian.  You might want to consider voting for Bob Barr.  he will support the constitution and stick to his principles no matter what happens - unlike most politicians.

me - who is Bob Barr? Never heard of him, but maybe we should all check him out?

LL -
Thanks Joy! I already did this a few months ago. Yeah, the leftists don't think anyone but them is entitled to an opinion and they love to run around and talk about celebrating diversity and tolerance. They are so full of it! They are most insincere and intolerant people.  If Obama wins welcome to socialism on the fast track, right? We're so screwed.

AW - Where do you get off sending me a political e-mail?!  We're not friends, in fact, I don't believe we have ever met in person except maybe once briefly at an LWB event.  I'm copying Karen on this e-mail to let her know that you used LWB contacts as part of your private POLITCAL mailing list.  There may be other LWBs you have e-mailed as well which is a violation of the rules.

It's incredibly rude for you to attempt to use me to further your political beliefs. From your posts, I know you are a Christian conservative and I don't send you MoveOn.Org or Planned Parenthood e-mails.  I would imagine you know by now by from my posts on LWB that you and I have different political and social ideals.

Up until now I've just deleted your mass e-mails be they for networking events, football watching parties, events you're promoting, etc.  But you've crossed the line.

Please remove me from your address book.

No disrespect intended and I am all for sharing LWB referrals, comments, ideas, etc but I don't want to be on your mailing lists.

Whoa! Guess I made someone mad. Here's how I responded:

I guess you don't get the joke or my sense of humor. I'm not part of LWB any more having left on my own violation. Don't worry. I won't include you any further.

However to prevent receiving any more of these formal emails, click on the original link to eliminate yourself.

Sorry you're offended. I was just joking around seeing as I'm constantly inundated by Obama emails by people I don't consider friends either.

Her response:

But I'm not one of the people who has sent them to you because I respect our differences and it would be rude for me to do so.

I am staunchly pro-choice, pro marriage rights for gays, separation of church and state, etc and am horrified by what I perceive as the Christian Right Wing hijacking the Republican party.  There are numerous things that Sarah Palin and John McCain stand for that make me sick to my stomach and the thought of them running our country frightens me, very much so.  But I worded my posts on LWB far more diplomatically and I don't send propaganda e-mails to my Republican and/or Christian friends.

It was just inconsiderate and inappropriate for you to send something like that to me becaause a) we don't really know each other and b) you know where I stand politically.

It would be like me sending you an e-mail inviting you to a pro-choice rally.  Yes, it's that offensive to me.

Thanks for understanding.  It's really too bad you left LWB.  I think the group -- any group - can only benefit from balance and opposing views.

My response:

Hi Amy, I wish I could agree with you regarding LWB, but I found it to be extremely biased, intolerant, inconsiderate and inappropriate as you have called me.

I sent you this email sincerely as a joke. You would not believe how much Obama stuff I receive constantly and thought it would be interesting to see how people I knew were Democrats responded when they receive similar messages. Consider it a social experiment if you will.

Trust me, I'm totally with you that McCain and Palin aren't everything I wish for our country, but then there are more things with Obama and Biden that are worse to me. I also happen to agree with you that religion is a bigger issue than it should be. Trust me, I truly do see value in both, but this is one race I have to lean right. I also like hearing both sides and thought people might too.

Please also realize I sent out over 1k emails and to be honest, I wasn't being personal about your preferences. I assumed you were a Dem because I knew you from LWB, but really, truly wasn't sending this to make you mad, or even remembered any of your posts to realize you were one of the good ones who's fair and balanced.

And as far as LWB is concerned, I appreciate your opinion, unfortunately, it's not reflected, respected or considered in that group which is why I remain free of their oppression and the communist ideology I was referring to in my email. lol

And some of my true friends who love me unconditionally just like I do them:

A - Joy! I'm as left as they come! I still love you though! ;)

SD- I am a supporter already.  I've donated two or three times so far.  Q.  You go girl!!!

NB - No worries. Notice I don't take part in political discussions, in general. Maybe a word here and there... But I don't send out emails individually- especially to those whom I know are republican. I respect your views and have no intention of trying to change them. That's what America is about.

DCR - Hi Joy - Well we won't change each other's mind.  But I do want to tell you about an amazing play I am producing..(Sorry, the link she gave doesn't work.)

ANYTHING YOU CAN DO TO GET THE WORD OUT
FOR THIS LAST WEEKEND, WOULD BE APPRECIATED!
Best, and let's talk after you hear the debate(s)...I hope.

SG - I wanted to thank you for your email.  I am going to vote for Obama, but am getting REALLY tired of strict, by the books, partisan politics.  Driving me crazy- especially liberals who are so outraged by the right that they try to curtail people's points of view.  I appreciated your drive for all of us to act on our convictions, which is a refreshing thing to hear.

So thanks and glad to hear from you.

And from my lovely staunch, right as they come, extreme Republican younger sister, I'll leave you with this:

Thur is going to be fun!!

It's thinking like that of your hostile responders that will mean when McCain wins everyone will think there's a fix in. There's great new book out about how clustering of like-minded folk is causing a lack of the normal give & take that people who live in mixed neighorhoods used to have. It's called "The Big Sort"--take a look.
