COUNTDOWN TO NOVEMBER 4TH: 19 DAYS TO ELECTION DAY
October 17, 2008
This is by Gary L. Bauer, a conservative who has his head on straight. And I quote:
“Senator Government”
"Was it intentional? Was it a Freudian slip? I don’t know for sure, but
when Senator McCain referred to his opponent as “Senator Government” in
last night’s third and final debate, he may have hit on a key theme for
the last three weeks of this campaign.
On issue after issue, Barack Obama has a Big Government, high tax,
big spending socialist solution. He is going to take care of your
health care. He is going to pay for your kid’s college education. He is
going to guarantee you a comfortable retirement. He is going to double
foreign aid. He is going to increase research funding on all diseases.
He is going to end our energy dependence. And, he’s going to heal the
planet, slow the rise of the oceans and bring peace in our time!
Here’s the catch: He’ll pay for it all by picking the pocket of
“Joe the plumber,” who also loomed large in last night’s debate.
According to Barack Obama, all that is necessary to give us economic
growth is to tax the heck out of the Joe’s of the world, who apparently
have too much money for Barack’s taste, and let Big Government “spread
the wealth around.”
Joe put it best when he told ABC News after the debate,
“To be honest with you, that infuriates me. It’s not right for someone
to decide you made too much -- that you’ve done too good and now we’re
going to take some of it back. That’s just completely wrong."
Senator McCain drove this point home last night in what I believe was his best performance to date. In the middle of an economic crisis, Barack Obama wants to take money away from small businesses, which are the biggest job creators in the country, and give it away to many people who have no federal tax liability. That’s not a tax cut – that’s a welfare increase.
By the way, James Pethokoukis, who writes for U.S. News and World Report, posted the following comment on his blog this morning: “A while back I chatted with a University of Chicago professor who was a frequent lunch companion of Obama’s. This professor said that Obama was as close to a full-out Marxist as anyone who has ever run for president of the United States.” Remember that when you go to the polls in 19 days. The last thing we need is “President Government.”
Obama Lied -- Again
When the sanctity of life came up in last night’s debate, Barack Obama again shamelessly lied about his record. Senator McCain did a good job of describing Obama’s disgusting and disturbing views on when babies should be protected. Speaking of Obama’s anti-life record, Senator McCain said the following:
“Senator Obama, as a member of the Illinois State Senate, voted in the Judiciary Committee against a law that would provide immediate medical attention to a child born of a failed abortion. He voted against that. And then, on the floor of the State Senate, as he did 130 times as a state senator, he voted present [on the same bill].
“Then there was another bill before the Senate Judiciary Committee in the state of Illinois not that long ago, where he voted against a ban on partial-birth abortion, one of the late-term abortion [procedures], …a terrible [procedure]. And then, on the floor of the Illinois State Senate, he voted present.
“I don’t know how you vote ‘present’ on some of that. I don’t know how you align yourself with the extreme aspect of the pro-abortion movement in America. And that’s his record, and that’s a matter of his record. It was clear-cut votes that Senator Obama voted, I think, in direct contradiction to the feelings and views of mainstream America.”
Obama did his usual double speak, very eloquent sounding, but factually a lie. Non-partisan analysis has already demonstrated that Obama’s record is exactly what Senator McCain said it is: Obama voted to allow babies who are born alive after failed abortions to die. And, he has voted to allow abortions in the sixth month of pregnancy and later.
For those of you who missed the Saddleback Forum, Pastor Rick Warren asked Obama a very revealing question: “Have you EVER voted to limit or reduce abortions?” Obama used 200 words of fluffy rhetoric to hide his real answer – “No.” Think about that. Not once has he ever voted to limit the daily destruction of thousands of innocent lives.
And here’s more proof of how radically pro-abortion Obama is: On the 35th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, Obama released a statement bragging about his pro-abortion record. Here is an excerpt:
“Throughout my career, I’ve been a consistent and strong supporter
of reproductive justice, and have consistently had a 100% pro-choice
rating with Planned Parenthood and NARAL Pro-Choice America. …And I
will continue to defend this right by [signing] the Freedom of Choice
Act as president.”
What is the Freedom of Choice Act? The bill was introduced by liberal
Democrats after the Supreme Court upheld the federal ban on
partial-birth abortions. The bill seeks to codify the Roe v. Wade
decision in federal law. It would repeal every restriction on abortion
at every level. It would repeal the federal law banning the gruesome
procedure of partial-birth abortion, and it would repeal every state
law on parental notification, informed consent and waiting periods.
These are extremist positions, but Big Media has done its best to ensure that most Americans don’t know about Obama’s radical pro-abortion record.
You Are The Target
In recent weeks, there has been a concerted attempt by the Obama campaign and the leftwing media to demoralize you and, thus, suppress the conservative vote. Don’t fall for it. Yes, Senator McCain is the underdog, but this race is far from over.
For example, I’m sure you’ve seen the polls showing Senator McCain down by double-digits. Maybe you saw a recent headline suggesting that Democrats can capture a filibuster-proof majority of 60 seats in the Senate. That would be a nightmare scenario if it happened, but it would happen only if conservatives don’t vote on Election Day, and that is exactly why the media are desperately trying to convince you that the election is already over!
Much of the polling data that is being spun by the liberal media
are polls of adults or registered voters, neither of which is a good
predictor of elections. But, even worse, the media are “over-sampling”
Democrats when they conduct these polls. A political science professor
recently dissected one major media poll that had Senator McCain
trailing by double-digits. Here’s what he found:
The first thing he noticed was that Senator McCain was actually
winning Independent voters. So how could he be down by 11 points? Upon
further examination, he found that the poll’s voter sample included 40%
Democrats, 33% Independents and just 27% Republicans. In short, the
poll “over-sampled” Democrats by 13 points. That might be an accurate
poll if the entire country looked like Massachusetts, but, thankfully,
it does not.
Then the professor attempted to correct the poll by “weighting” the
sample based on the actual turnout in a recent election. Instead of
assuming that 40% of the voters who show up to the polls will be
Democrats, he used the turnout figures from the 2006 election -- a bad
year for the GOP. After “weighting” the sample of voters based on real
turnout figures, Obama’s lead dropped to just two points. Confirming
the professor’s findings, one of the most accurate polls in 2004 just
released a new survey that had Senator McCain down three points.
We can win this, my friends, but it will be up to you! You must vote, and to counter the efforts of ACORN, you must persuade as many friends and family members as possible, with the information we are providing, to support Senator McCain and Governor Palin in the 19 days remaining in this campaign.
