Classic Rock Sing-a-long October 20 - doesn't this sound like a kick?
October 09, 2007
This is from my Brunching Ladies list - doesn't it sound like an absolute blast? Try to come out! This is from Julia who is one of star copywriters on the list.
CLASSIC ROCK SINGALONG OCT. 20
Hey Ladies,
My husband is hosting his semi-regular Classic Rock Singalong Saturday, Oct. 20, at 9:30 p.m., at the M Bar (Fountain and Vine; $5). If you like to toss back a few and sing really loud to your favorite songs with a bunch of other loud, soused singers, this is the event for you.
IT'S NOT KARAOKE; it's an actual singalong - lyric sheets will be provided. A band of seasoned pros
and amateurs alike will be onstage (the $5 admission will go toward making sure they are inebriated as well), and volunteers can lead songs if they want to, but no one solos. The band knows about 50 songs - some of which are more "Don't You Want Me, Baby" than classic, but whatever.
Please let me know if you want to go and I'll look out for you. If you want to lead a song, drop a note to Simon Glickman at Editorial Emergency. More info below.
XO,
Julia (Rubiner)
"The best party of the year so far" - Tony
"About as much fun as one can have with one's clothes on" - Josh
"I had a decidedly Kim Carnes-ish voice the next day from all that
caterwauling ... so much fun!" - Alice
After a couple of epic house parties, The Classic Rock Singalong makes its club debut at M Bar (1253 N. Vine, Hollywood) on Sat., Oct. 20 at 10pm. Far from karaoke or American Idol, the Singalong puts the focus squarely on the audience - and a treasury of great pop tunes from the past 50 years. Will we sing songs by the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Neil Young, David Bowie and the Doors? Absolutely. But our definition of "Classic Rock" is VERY inclusive - we also love Journey, Bon Jovi, Human League, Cheap Trick, Prince, "Jesus Christ Superstar," Patsy Cline and Joan Jett.
With a core band of fabulous musicians and an array of guest singers leading the proceedings, it's a
night to lift glasses and voices with gusto. Previous Singalong events have featured musicians who've played with Paul McCartney, Brian Wilson, Stevie Wonder, Tom Waits and other greats; a crew of fabulous guests is planned for our M Bar splashdown.
