Just finished my latest PR push for VOX DJ's and VOX Entertainment who are celebrating their 25th Year Anniversary on November 14, 2009 at Manhattan's prestigious Manhattan Beach Country Club.
Click on this link to my professional blog, The Joy Writer PR, to read all about it! It's going to be so much fun. If you're interested in becoming a sponsor, we still have spaces left to participate. Contact me or the guys directly.
Now that that's done for a little bit, I will be able to focus on fashion tomorrow, but tonight it's all about Jeff Duclos!:)
I promise the fashion write-ups will come soon! They just take over four hours to write and prep which I just don't have in me tonight to write.
My eyes and hands hurt from working on the computer all day! I'm loving my new part-time job, but it keeps me busy, busy.:)
Back to Jeff Duclos.
Now if you haven't taken the time to listen to the Hermosa Beach City Council debates, may I urge you to do so if you're a Hermosa Beach resident, or a media outlet trying to figure out what these candidates really stand for and with? You owe it to yourself and your community to hear the facts straight from the horse's mouth.
Here's a link to This is Hermosa where the final debate held by Leadership Hermosa is parceled out to make it easier to watch. I think the most revealing parts in any and all of these Hermosa Beach City Council Debates are when the public asks questions and the candidates answer.
There are those who don't comment at all (Jokes only knows what he's been told or has studied), and then there are those who are much more qualified to handle the heavy duty responsibility of being a Hermosa Beach City Council Member with very thoughtful answers.
Everyone impressed me, even Josh Ochs occasionally, but his youth, political inexperience, and lack of any real city or business experience prior to running cause a lot of us native Hermosa Beach residents to hope people vote with their brains rather than strictly on personality.
Oh, and for those who possibly think Jeff Duclos might not have the personality for the job - you couldn't be further than the truth.
I went to his open house this past Sunday.
As I walked in, I was pleasantly surprised to see Jeff's fiercest opponents in the last city council election (Ron Newman, Owner of Baja Sharkeez, and current City Council Member, Pete Tucker and his wife, Sienna among other Hermosa Beach notables) there in support.
Ron even donated food!
L-R Kevin Jennings, Christine Duclos, Peter & Siena Tucker, Julie Jennings, Jeff Duclos
I know you wouldn't believe me so I asked if I could take some pix to prove it! The Newmans left prior to my pix, but ask anyone and they'll verify, or ask Ron himself. He's not afraid to say who he's supporting.
Now if Jeff supposedly "doesn't play well with others" why are those who work with him on the Hermosa Beach Art Walk Committee also supporting him?
Hermosa Beach City Council Member, Jeff Duclos with Hermosa Beach Art Walk fellow Committee Member and local Hermosa Beach resident, Ken Klade.
Both Ken Klade and Sienna Tucker (who is running for Hermosa Beach School Board by the way) have served many years on the Hermosa Beach Art Walk Board with Jeff. Sienna couldn't stop raving how much Jeff has grown as a man and candidate -- "He's positive, a breath of fresh air."
Even her husband, Peter, current Hermosa Beach City Council Member who narrowly beat Jeff by 67 votes in the last city council election, said, "Jeff is someone who takes the city to heart and wants to make it better."
Julie Jennings, the host of the event and a graduate of Leadership Hermosa who has also worked with Jeff and myself on committees, introduced Jeff to the group gathered in support by saying that in all her years of working in her previous position as an Executive Vice President never had she met anyone who had the global view, but also knew how to bore down and take care of the details as well.
Former Mayor of Hermosa Beach and current Hermosa Beach Business Owner of numerous businesses, George Barks with Host and recent Leadership Hermosa Graduate, Julie Jennings (and my personal friend.)
I agree. So does George Barks. If you watch him on the debates asking tough questions, he doesn't mess around. He says what he means, and means what he says. He is also supporting Jeff for office.
And for those who are concerned about Jeff's environmental background, relax. I've known him professionally and personally since 2004 when I took his Pubic Relations class at UCLA Extension before bumping into him again in Hermosa Beach when I moved there.
Never in a million years would I have ever known about his environmental work until reading his press release a few months back! He's not one of those in your face kind of guys on anything he does - at least for the years I've known him. He's mellowed like a fine wine.:)
What you may also not know since he rarely talks about it, prior to starting his own private PR consulting business in Hermosa Beach he held a very high-level executive position at a major PR Firm in Hollywood where he dealt with some of the most sophisticated, demanding executives, celebrities, sponsors, government types, media, and others in a wide variety of industries and professions.
As a result, I am confident he will represent Hermosa Beach professionally and with decorum when he needs to travel to Sacremento or DC on Hermosa's behalf. Jokes? Not so sure... Cool. Gee. Neat.
Just watch the debates!
Oh, and when Jeff talks about raising his family in Hermosa - he means his children, not a dog like Jokes who keeps referring to bringing his family to Hermosa. What family?
I guess when you're single and running a sole proprietorship like Josh is, your dog really does become your best friend and like family.:)
I love Josh's endorsements too because they're all about how nice he is, what a great guy he was to house-sit, fix their plumbing etc and nothing about his political and professional qualifications for this important role as City Council Member.
Hmmm, makes you wonder doesn't it? Go to www.supportjosh.com to see exactly what I'm talking about.
Josh may talk a good talk about being concerned about public safety and our fire department, but Jeff Duclos was the one to receive both organization's endorsement, not Josh. I think that says something, don't you?
Jeff has also been on the volunteer police force for quite sometime too and is very familiar with the issues facing our police and fire departments. He hasn't just gone on a few ride-alongs, but many, many over the course of many years.
In addition, Jeff's depth and breadth of knowledge about all the issues facing Hermosa is very impressive. I learned things from Jeff listening to the Hermosa Beach City Council Debates I didn't even know and I consider myself pretty politically savvy.
That's why I highly recommend you take the time to listen too before you vote. Then you will see for yourself who is the most experienced, balanced, thoughtful, intelligent and politically savvy candidates who will best represent you.
And it aint Jokes. Sorry, it just isn't. Maybe by the time the next city council election happens...
But now? No way! Don't take my word for it, watch the debates!
Jeff Duclos comes across balanced, humble, low-key, disciplined, kind, intelligent and fair. He's also EXTREMELY knowledgable about the issues facing Hermosa Beach unlike his junior counter-part who has been cramming and learning on the fly. Just watch Jokes' total lack of response on certain questions. I think the nickname Jokes is appropriate, don't you?:)
Oh and for all Josh's talk about Leadership Hermosa?
Jeff Duclos sits on the board and has for many years. Guess Jeff also knows what a good thing it is for the city too. Only he's a leader in the group, rather than taking classes at the same time as running for office.
A leader or a student? Who would you prefer?
That's why I encourage you to vote for Jeff Duclos. Good for Hermosa, good for you - the small business owner, the senior citizen, the family, the tourist, and everyone who cares about preserving the small town beach community we all love so much.
That's all. I'm going to bed.
Think on these things grasshopper.
