I hear your frustration and a lot of people share it. It's tough when your place of worship only feeds you the leftover scraps. Just remember that you are not a victim. You have options.

You can bring up the issue with the Church leadership (which you are doing).

You can find a more nurturing Church elsewhere.

You can start your own group, even if it's not a "church" in the eyes of the world. "Wherever two or more are gathered..."

You can have a ministry of one, honoring and connecting to God by yourself, in a way that is most meaningful to you.

Or you can stay where you are and hope the situation will change on its own.

There are no right or wrong decisions. Only choices and consequences.

Like I said, I can appreciate your feelings. It's painful when those who claim to speak for God and Jesus, only have enough love for people just like them. I was kicked out of 3 different churches for being transgender or gay. I found my own path. And that, as Robert Frost said, has made all the difference.

Peace,
Dharmashanti

Wow...what a lot of great information. I've posted a lot about many of these same issues, so you're not alone! It's always nice to find another smart, articulate, single female blogger. :-)

Christian Singles

Hi Joy! I really enjoyed reading this article and I'm sure there are an abundance of people that can relate to you. I attended a church similar to the one you described in which they would constantly have events centered around family-oriented themes and leave out the singles in the congregation. Myself and a few choir members spoke with the leadership of the church and asked them to try to include us more and when we spoke to them, they were so apologetic and unaware we had even felt segregated. They immediately mandated a game night, kind of like Christian Dating, only for singles. And not just for the members of our church, but for neighboring towns and cities as well! We are all pleased we spoke up and are able to enjoy being in church and also embracing the single life!
